How to Manage and Cancel Game Subscriptions on Android
Find every subscription on your Google Play account, cancel or pause game passes and VIP plans, and avoid surprise renewals after free trials.
Many games and apps now offer subscriptions: monthly VIP passes, premium tiers, ad-free plans, and services like Google Play Pass. They’re easy to sign up for and easy to forget. Here’s how to see everything you’re subscribed to, cancel what you don’t use, and avoid surprise charges.
Find all your Google Play subscriptions
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile picture.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
You’ll see active subscriptions, including the price, renewal date, and payment method. You can also see expired subscriptions.
How to cancel a subscription
- Go to Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Select the subscription.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
Uninstalling the game does not cancel the subscription. You must cancel it in Google Play (or wherever you subscribed).
After canceling, you usually keep access until the end of the current billing period.
Tip: Subscribed on a website instead of through Google Play? Then you’ll need to cancel on that website. Check your email receipts if you’re not sure where you subscribed.
Pause instead of cancel
Some subscriptions let you pause for a period instead of canceling. Look for a Pause payments option on the subscription page. This can be useful if you’re taking a break from a game but plan to return.
Free trials: avoid surprise charges
Free trials usually convert to paid subscriptions automatically. To avoid surprises:
- Set a calendar reminder a day or two before the trial ends.
- Cancel right away if you only want the trial. In many cases, you still keep access until the trial ends.
- Check the trial length on the subscription page.
Update your payment method
If a payment fails, Google Play may give you a grace period to update your card. Go to Subscriptions → [subscription] → Update to change the payment method.
Understanding common game subscriptions
| Type | What you usually get |
|---|---|
| Monthly VIP or membership | Daily currency, bonuses, or exclusive items |
| Battle pass (monthly or seasonal) | Rewards for playing during a season |
| Ad-free plan | Removes ads from a free game |
| Game service (like Play Pass) | Access to many games without ads or purchases |
Battle passes are sometimes one-time purchases per season rather than true subscriptions. Read our take on whether battle passes are worth it.
Is a game subscription worth it?
Ask yourself:
- Do I play this game almost every day? Daily-reward subscriptions only pay off if you log in regularly.
- Would I miss it if it disappeared?
- Is the price per month worth it compared to other games?
If the answer is “no” or “not sure,” cancel and see if you miss it.
Review subscriptions every few months
It’s easy to collect subscriptions. Put a recurring reminder on your calendar every three months to review Payments & subscriptions and cancel anything you no longer use.
Getting a refund for a renewal
If a subscription renewed and you didn’t intend to keep it, you may be able to request a refund shortly after the charge. See our Google Play refund guide.
Subscriptions on kids’ accounts
Children with Family Link need parent approval for purchases, including subscriptions, depending on settings. Check that purchase approval covers all content, and review your family’s subscriptions regularly.
A quick look at your subscriptions page once in a while can save real money each year — and makes sure you’re only paying for games you love.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose my items if I cancel a game subscription?
Items you already received usually stay in your account. You just stop getting new subscription rewards after the current period ends.
Can I cancel a subscription in the middle of the month?
Yes. You keep access until the end of the billing period you already paid for.
Why don’t I see a subscription in Google Play?
You may have subscribed on a website or with another Google account. Check your email receipts and any other accounts on your phone.
